Romans 5:6-10 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him! 10 For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! (NIV)
Paul tells us God demonstrated his love for us in the fact that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. We were powerless to do anything to make ourselves right with God. We were ungodly. Deserving of God’s wrath or holy judgment for our sin. When Christ died for us, he justified us by his blood. He paid the price to satisfy our sin debt. The sacrifice of Christ not only saves us from our sins, but it reconciled us to God. Christ is the greatest demonstration of God’s love.
There is nothing any of us can do to save ourselves from our sins. We are powerless and unable to atone for our sins before a holy God. Our sins put us in a position of hopelessness, but God because of his great love for us gave us hope though Christ. Jesus did for us what we could have never done. He paid the price for our sin with his very own precious innocent blood. His blood not only saves us from our sins, but it reconciles us to God. We are saved and reconciled through Christ. Christ is the greatest demonstration of God’s love. When we doubt his love for us let us look back to Christ and what he did for us on the cross, and let us remember all the blessing we receive through him. Never doubt God’s love!
Father, I thank you for your great love for me. Thank you for sending your son to help me in my powerlessness. May I always remember Christ is the greatest demonstration of your love for me.
